LCD-17520 Touchscreen Hat for Raspberry pi TFT 3.5in.

I brought in a couple of these displays and have been trying to get the first one working.

I first tried using a Raspberry pi 3B and Buster, full version.

I upgraded everything and cloned the repository.

When I do the driver install, it seems to go fine and does the auto-reboot.

The reboot never finishes, however. The display usually shows bringing up network interfaces as the last line and then it hangs.

I found a 2019-04-08 full stretch image and used that. The driver installed and after the reboot I had the UI displayed on the LCD hat.

If you want the UI menu to be on the edge of the pi with the power connector, use the ./rpi_35 180 driver install command.

I purchased this touchscreen and found out it is not compatible with the RPI 4B. What models is it know to work on? The poster above got it to work on the RPI 3B.

Probably anything 3B and older, the “data sheet” also mentions the Zero W as well.

I’ve installed this screen on a Raspberry Pi 3B with Raspberry Pi OS. The normal desktop comes up ok and I can use a terminal window but selecting anything else (e.g. “Preferences”) results in a white screen and the system freezes. Any suggestions?

Might be a bad screen or it could be a software problem.

Try a fresh install of the OS and the screen software and see if that fixes things.

SparkFun sent me a replacement. Similar results. Get a normal desktop. Goes white shortly after selecting from dropdown menu.

I’ve managed to get this to work with the RaspberryOS on a 4b… but when I wipe the card and install OctoPrint I lose video on the screen, even after installing the drivers again.

Thoughts? Time to return/exchange?
