How about posting estimated lead times for out of stock items?
Would go a long way to placate those of us who are (sometimes impatiently) waiting for things you don’t have.

The best estimate we can ever give is 2-3 weeks. Many of our suppliers are overseas, and our leadtime is heavily dependent on shipping times and whether it gets stuck in customs or not.
