LED Strip Battery?

Hello…

So I have a project that requires a small LED strip ~ 7" in length ~ about 12 LED’s in total. I have been told this translates to about 20maH per ~ so a total of 240mAh required (does this sound right)? I am very new to circuit hacking so please forgive my ignorance.

My goal is to set up a rechargeable battery with as small a foot print as possible (very small area it has to fit in).

I was looking at this batter that is an ideal size but I am not sure if it will work?

and was looking at this module to charge it (if compatible):

I will also need to set up some kind of switch to turn it on and off - have not researched this yet…

Can anyone provide any information if the above could work / how long will the battery last to power the strip before it needs recharging ~ and or any other information I should consider.

Unfortunately, I do not know the spec or brand on the LED strip lights I have but I am not married to them and happy to purchase others that are more suitable for this project. These ones are one color (white) ~ but would be cool to consider changing color ones as well ~ even cooler to make them programmable but I may be getting ahead of myself.

The end goal is to just have these be powered with out the use of a wall charger.

Cheers

Hi j.

If your LEDs each draw 20mA and you have 12 of them, you’d need 240mA to drive them.

That battery would work if your LEDs are happy with 3.7 - 4.2 volts for power.

I don't know for sure if the connector on your battery would work with this charger or not, it might be better to get the charger designed especially for your battery.

I will also need to set up some kind of switch to turn it on and off

Any switch rated for the amount of current you are pulling through your circuit should be OK. [[This switch](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14330) would work.](https://www.sparkfun.com/products/14330)

Thank you for the reply - unfortunately I think I will need 12V to drive the LED strip even though its only a few of them.

I found this one but even this is a little to big:

Do they make boosters for 3.7v batteries - if so will this shorten the life of the battery?

If you know of any batteries similar to the above please let me know.

The smaller the better.

Thanks.

Pololu has boosters that will turn 3.7 volts into 12. Boosting the voltage will increase the amount of current being drawn and that will shorten battery life.

If you know of any batteries similar to the above please let me know.

I don't, sorry. :(
