LG290P Mask Angle

According to the document here https://forums.quectel.com/uploads/short-url/y4Pviln5gqRcm6xkEGD9NFdBhxA.pdf

Elevation mask angle should be possible on the LG290P is there a way we can have this implemented into RTK Everywhere.

As I have been testing the Mosiac I notice how I can track a more realistic amount of satellites like pro grade hardware versus the lg290p tracks many many satellites.

I’m afraid,Ryan but the link refers to a cloned module and the commands are a mix of
quectel_sdk & unicore…
instead the only par. is the 2-3-39 in LG290P e angolo di CUT-OFF - #3 by splee - GNSS Module - Quectel Forums other related are 2.3.36 & 37.

This might be the single factor that makes the Mosiac facet win.

Who has two thumbs and early access to the v1.1.0 protocol?

Supported in v05 LG290P firmware. I’ll add it to the features list. It’s a bit time consuming because we have to gate keep these new features from being displayed/implemented if the user is operating on a lower, incompatible version.

But before I do that, we have to update the LG290P library. Let the yak shaving commence!

So it will be done by Friday so I can test it in my sparkfun shootout

You could do an RC test to keep it from breaking users lagging on lg290p firmware?

And really this stemmed from
The Trimble R12i at work around 17 satellites around me
The facet mosaic around 17 satellites
A Carlson brx6+ around 17 satellites

The lg290p with default 5 degree 33 satellites.

I get results that agree with each other except heights from mosiac just because it hasn’t got an NGS calibration (I am sure I could field calibrate the APC)

But I have to wonder what bad answers I could open to by not masking. Sickle tells me it could be bad but I don’t know enough about the magic in the firmware to say.

Thanks a lot @sparky, You are privileged…
2.3.56 thats a lot of new comm.
Hope in HAS development… Your drive is crucial to make this happen.

Thanks, Sparky.
Keep pushing Quectel to be more agile with their updates. Good luck with that. Hehe.
Good news overall. It’s becoming a more complete product. Being able to add an elevation mask is crucial for filtering out very low satellites.
Let’s hope the Galileo HAS corrections appear very quickly.
Best regards.

I was able to set elevation and cnr and save to nvram and can confirm now I get like 15 to 17 satellites like I usually get around here

That is Awesome!

And please don’t forget :

It can be just as helpful as Elevation Mask
The Spec says it defaults to 10, which I vote we need much higher.

I’m a big fan of 15° Mask and 30 dBHz SNR.
MultiPath is the “silent killer” to accuracy in our game.

Thank you to all the excellent beta testers here! Positive reinforcement is a thing. Thanks @AORPLS for confirming real world experience.

A branch that supports these settings is in, testing, then RC merge by Friday is very doable. But just a gentle reminder: RCs are not for the field. Known issues with the current RC branch:

  • NTRIP Server is broken
  • Firmware update via Web Config page is broken
  • ESP-NOW Pairing from the display menu causes reset
  • Anything TCP/UDP is broken

I don’t think this will affect you all but just know we’re working on these big bugs.

v2.2 release candidate is available here. I recommend the GUI update method but other methods should work. Be sure to update your LG290P as well to allow these new settings to work.

This setting worked as intended. I used it yesterday searching for corners and was able to knock my mask from 20 to 10 to try to get a fix out in the trees.
