LilyPad MP3 Battery

I’m creating a circuit for class. I am trying to use your Lilypad MP3 product to play music on a cape, but the website was not clear what battery would work so I purchased a 3.7 V 1200 mAh and when I plugged it in the board immediately started smoking. I looked again and the website did say at least 500mAh for the battery but I had to really search for that and your website doesn’t sell 500mAh batteries. Now I’m wondering what I’m supposed to do with the 1200 mAh battery and why it started smoking when your website says at least 500mAh. I would love a fast reply as this project is a group final for class and we are on a deadline.

Thank you

Hi whit2447,

Based on your description, it sounds like the battery you connected to the LilyPad MP3 was the opposite polarity of the JST connector on the LilyPad MP3. You can test the polarity of your battery with a multimeter if you have one to make sure it matches with the labels on the LilyPad MP3. Unfortunately, it sounds like the battery circuit on your board is damaged. You might still be able to power it through another input either on the FTDI Header or through the VIN pin but that may be damaged as well.
