Looking for IC labels

I’m looking for small rectangular labels that I can peel and stick onto DIP ICs (such as the ATMega328P-PU) that will not easily fall off and that are supplied on a sheet that can be printed via laser printer.

The goal is to identify the version of software flashed into the chip.

I vaguely remember that such labels were commonly used on UV window EEPROMs, but can not seem to find a source for them. I have tried using some Avery labels, but the ones that I found were not really the right size, and the adhesive was not as strong as I’d like to have.

Any pointers to suitable labels would be appreciated.

Why do you want “stickers” that can’t peal off just for labeling “software versions”? Doesn’t add up to me…

It’s hard to tell what firmware is programmed into a chip by just looking. He wants stickers that stick well so they don’t fall off on their own, not ones that can’t be peeled off. Makes sense if you don’t have a way of field-updating them.

Yes, exactly.

There are other types of labels designed for purposes other than mailing. I know that there is a special type of label just for naming plastic storage bins. You might Google for that.

Mailing labels can be found in all sizes and shapes, or trimmed to size (unless you are doing some huge quantity.) Check the Avery Label company site for sizes and types. If you find something you like, grab the free template for that label, while you are there.

Don’t forget about using a data base, or spreadsheet, and doing a “mail merge” integration.

You might place blue, painter’s tape on a sheet of paper, print it and stick it on your circuit. There are different brands, so do some research about their adhesive properties.

3M Company makes all sorts of sticky stuff. I think that they make extra strong PostIt note paper. Check out there website.

The print center in office supply, big-box stores can help with processing… Such things as printing, sorting, folding and stapling.
