LPC and ceramic resonator - need some advice

Hello All,

I’m making a board that will contain an LPC2103 unit, and since timing is not critical, but height is, I would like to use a surface mount ceramic resonator.

From reading some data sheets on ceramic resonators w/o caps I have found that the necessary loading capacitor sizes can vary widely across chip families/voltage ranges.

If these aren’t sized properly could the oscillator circuit fail to start, or would the frequency accuracy just be reduced?

Thanks in advance.

I have been using the Citizen CS10 SMD Crystals. I know they are not a resonator, but i think you will like the height.

Check them out at Mouser. P/N: 695-CS10-184

you will need a different Xtal speed, im sure.

That is a nice low profile package but Alas they don’t seem to have it in stock at digikey. I’d rather keep everything from a single source, but if I’ll still keep them in consideration.

Thanks for the head up.

Abracon also makes a variety of low-profile xtals, similar to the Citizen ones, but more commonly available. Digikey doesn’t carry them (last I checked), but you can get them at Mouser…
