Hi Sparkfun,
Any advice on the range that could be expected with the new M7E Hecto RFID reader teamed with your high gain antenna and some of the ultra small RFID tags, like those offered by Murata or Xerafy?
Thanks,

It can depend on a lot of factors, but 16ft is about the max we’ve achieved…it will be quite a bit lower for the ultra-small tags
Hi, just wondering if you ended up testing range with Murata or Xerafy tags? I am interested in testing it out and was about to buy the gear but it would be great to hear if you tested it first… Thanks, Tom
Hi Thomas,
Unfortunately no I didn’t end up testing, a scour of the web indicated that despite the impressive capabilities of the M7E Hecto, ranges were largely determined by aerial size. The Murata or Xerafy tags were dependent on mounting on a metal surface to increase range to what I would have required. Didn’t have the spare coin to trial without a reasonable expectation of success. If you do give it a go, love to hear your outcome. If it worked, and could get 1.0m range, I could use it tomorrow.
