Midget Gyration gyros: food for thought

This actually isn’t a new product idea, just something I ran across

Most people are aware of the Gyration Gyromice. They have macro-engineered 2 axis gyros inside in a 1 cubic inch metal cube. I have several here for use in low G projects. I just visited their site for the first time in many months and all the datasheets have disappeared. Instead, they have a new gyro up!

It’s still a macro-gyro, not MEMS, but it hits 500 degrees/s, and runs everything over I2C via a 10/16bit ADC. Pretty spiffy.

Looks neato. They say it’s “low cost”, but they don’t give any numbers. Hmm…

Who knows. The original units I have sitting around hit their mechanical stops at any constant acceleration above 3G. The pricing was also $100 in single units. These, who knows, but I hope the design’s improved. As I was looking for something that could handle 10+G’s of acceleration (rocketry, etc), they’re only a toy for me.

 Neat stuff! Dual axis no less.

Here are the working links to the data sheets:

If they tear 'em down again, shoot me a PM, as I have saved copies of the PDFs to my HD.
