motion tracker with LED lights

Hi,

I’m trying to make a strip of neopixels follow a person as they walk down a hallway. I currently have them connected to a ping ultrasonic sensor and an Arduino UNO. It has kinda worked but it’s more sporadic than I would like. I don’t think the ping is accurate enough at long distances. Any suggestions?

Ultrasonic sensor module model? Hallways dimensions? Examples of echo timing vs distance? Code on the Arduino?

I suggest we summon a genie in a bottle for clairvoyance advice.
