NEWB - Buck converter for handheld GPS

My 12V cigarette lighter power supply to my handheld GPS has failed. It has a step down DC-DC converter inside the male 12V connector that drops the output voltage to 3.3V. I’m looking to replace the dc-dc converter with the Baby-buck, but I don’t know if it is just that simple. Do I need to add capacitors etc? The handheld can also run off of 2 AA batteries.

That’ll work fine for delivering 3.3v, no need to add anything else (it has caps already https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/5/d/d/3/d/18357_SparkFun_BabyBuck_Regulator_Schematic.pdf)

This is great news, thanks for speedy reply!!
