I just received an OpenLog Artemis and a 1Ah battery today. When I connected the OLA to my laptop via USB-C, the “KDB5” (I think that’s what is says, 5 pins) IC overheated pretty badly to the point I got a small blister from touching it. I also have several Artemis Nanos, which do not noticeably heat up when charging the same battery. I don’t have any additional sensors attached.

Hmm, I am at a loss as to how we can troubleshoot this further on the forums. My gut says you probably have a defective unit.
I would suggest that you initiate a return ticket here: https://www.sparkfun.com/returns
Once the ticket is submitted your case will be processed into the Tech Support que and we can take it from there.
