I just started using the qwiic openlog (DEV-15164). The microsd card holder won’t hold a card in place- it’s always in “eject mode”. I wonder if there was a bad batch of microSD holders.
I don’t know how to make it usable. I could try doing so destructively but ultimately it seems to be a defective product and I need a replacement. I was told to post this in the forums, though it seems slightly weird. Yes, I’ve tried different SD cards. No, I don’t think my arduino sketch is causing this
Thanks for including that gif and the video showing the connector. It definitely looks like the latching mechanism in the SD holder is either stuck or broken. It may be stuck and tapping it lightly against a hard surface might dislodge it and I’ve found in some cases that applying a small amount of heat to it (in my case using a Hot Air Rework Station) can dislodge it and kind of “reset” that locking mechanism. If tapping it or heating it slightly does not work to fix it, please fill out the form on [this page and in the “Why do you want an RMA?” box, link to this post and fill i na brief description and we will follow up with further information.](Return Policy - SparkFun Electronics)
I tried hitting it with my hot air rework station for a few longer intervals (since a hot air rework station often turns into a hot air destruction station). I also probed around with tweezers against the moving slide/spring, which seems to work. But it doesn’t capture the card. I’ll go for the RMA.
Thanks for giving it a shot! It sounds like the latching mechanism is just totally broken so go ahead and fill out that RMA form and we’ll get you taken care of.
