openPIR works for a couple seconds, then stops working properly

Hello, I am using an openPIR board https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13968 and I am getting inconsistent values. I am also using a pro mini 3.3V and powering this with a FTDI board from sparkfun.

I have three of these boards, and they all react “Kind of” the same way. 1 will work fine for a couple of seconds, then only go high with little blips of low. Another one will work, but after a couple seconds only go low and never go high. The third one I can’t really understand the data at all. I have attached a screenshot of one of the plots.

I have adjusted the values for 5 and 3.3V setups, and run this setup on a redboard as well. I am also using the code from the tutorial here https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/op … okup-guide

I have also adjusted the pots and try to just keep them in the middle. I have also powered it through a 2A USB charger in case there was something wrong with the laptop.

Finally I powered it with a 4V 18650 lipo plugged into the RAW port on the mini. The LED on the openPIR just blinked about once a second for a couple of minutes, and I switched between dual and single. After a while, the motion LED on the mini went high and stayed high only to go low intermittently for a very short period of time.

I am lost and have no idea how to get these working. Thank you for the help.

Hi stevenette,

It sounds like you might have a connection issue going on here. Can you please take a few photos of your OpenPIRs and the circuit(s) you have them in? Especially any soldering you have done. Please do your best to make sure they are clear and well-lit.
