I’m having a lot of problems pairing the bluesmirf with the gnome-bluetooth gui that came with ubuntu. i can detect the smirf fine, but pairing is a different matter. When i try pairing, the gui does not ask me for a PIN but rather uses a default pin. I then decided to edit hcid.conf to hardcode the pin, but for some odd reason hcid is not in etc/bluetooth like it should be!
I’ve used several other methods like creating an rfcomm file just for the bluetooth and pairing via minicom. This method works for some reason, even though I was never asked a pin number. I’d be fine with sticking to this, but I’m experiencing issues with using the hcitool command.
if i call hcitool rssi {deviceID}, the reported value is shown on a range between 0-36, too small for rssi.
i’ve also tried using the blueproximity application to lock my computer if my device is too far away. Although the application can pair easily with my smirf(the light is green), it does nothing in calculating distances as it should. Is this a problem of my initial pairing or is it just a limitation of bluesmirf compared with bluetooth found in cellphones?
