Person Tracking - Smart Home

Hi Everyone, I am looking for a way to track the movement of individuals within my home. I would like to be able to set up a reader (Bluetooth/NFC/RFID) in specific rooms (10 foot range) that would become aware when someone entered the room.

I thought about just using Bluetooth LE to scan for mobile phones but people aren’t always carrying their phones and initial testing using Raspberry Pi / Bluetooth didn’t always pick up the phones. Almost like they were not always scan-able.

Second idea was to use Bluetooth rings but the rings I’ve seen so far are bulky

Third idea was to use NFC/RFID but all of low cost readers seem to only have a distance of a couple inches or less.

Can someone point me in the right direction for a reader that would cover a 10ft radius and an identifying item (ring/token/card/phone) that could be reliably scanned and didn’t cost hundreds of dollars per reader or token?

I appreciate any insight that can be provided!!!

The Panasonic Grid-Eye thermal imaging array can track humans moving around a room (with a bit of software).

How would your schemes handle two or more people in one room?
