PIC based geiger counter

Hi, I would like to design a pic based geiger counter and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any previous projects, schematic diagrams etc. I want it to be as simple as possible but I do want it to display the counts per minute on an lcd screen. If possible i would like to use a PIC16f877 (as I have used this pic before  ). I will be programing in C rather than assembly as i find it easier

Any info on this would be great thanks

Thanks both was looking to fully design the circuit myself so thank you jremington, that seems to be a good direction to start in!!!

I would recommend to have the PIC generate the high voltage, too (that is, replace the 555 timer in my circuit). You can use the PIC comparator to sense the voltage level and in turn, switch the HV transistor.
