How about something like an Arduino for PICAXEs? I know they make project boards, but i want to redesign them to be compatible with shields and be cheaper.

Have you guys looked at the Chipaxe? While not being compatible with the Picaxe or its programming editor, it is a PIC in a Arduino package. Plus, with a little work, it is also programmable in BASIC!!! Hope its helps
