Portable Arduino EL Wire Set Up

Hello!

I’m completely new to Arduino and have never used it before. Although I’ve heard about it and I known what it is and some basics of what it can do. Anyways, I want to create this portable EL Wire set up that will be attached to this all black costume. I was wondering if it’s not too much, if anybody can just quickly review the parts I will be getting and tell me if they will work according to what I’m trying to do.

What I want this set up of 6-8 EL Wires to do is just control (By manually programming it) when each connected EL Wire turns on and off. I want it so I have multiple EL Wires on at the same time. I want to control these lights for up to 3 minutes and at certain points, each EL wire might be turning on and off several times per second.

I’ve found the parts that I absolutely need such as:

  • EL Escudo Dos - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10878

  • Stackable Header - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10007

  • El Wire (6-8 sets) - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11422

  • EL Inverter (12v) - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10469
  • I also need a 12V input (these instructions I read claimed that I needed a wall adapter). Is there any battery that will let me do this? I heard this one works, is it true? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10470 (Also how would I charge it?)

Now I also know that I need an Arduino board, will I be able to pull this off with an Arduino Pro or Uno? Or will I run out of memory?

If there’s anything that you don’t understand or that’s not clear, please tell me! I’d appreciate it a lot if anybody can help me out, also if they can tell me if I have everything to fully make this work or if there’s a better way of doing this?

I willing to make 4 sets of this set up which will end up costing around $400-$500 so I need everything to be working smoothly and efficiently with no errors, (if that’s possible with this?)

    Thank you very much!

Why do you think you need the above ? The El Escudo Dos has the equivalent of an Arduino built into (?onto?) it. As far a memory ... there's no way to know for sure but I suspect you can do this type of project with the memory built into the El Escudo Dos. It will depend on how complex a lighting scheme you have and how efficiently you can store that info.

Other than the above, your parts list looks good to me.

For chargers and more battery choices you might look at various RC outlets.
