Portable emulator

I want to design a portable device that is able to play snes or gba roms, I want to use the psp lcd screen, but i’m not really sure where to start. Can someone help me out or give me some information on where to start.

That’s a fairly tall order if you don’t know where to start. Do you have the skills to write an emulator? It’s not a trivial task. Just controlling the PSP screen takes a fairly powerful processor, and GBA and SNES requires a fair bit as well. For example, the DS can’t really handle GBA from what experienced emulator writers have said. It has an ARM9 and an ARM7 available. Check out openpandora.com. They have a platform that can handle it. It will give you some idea of the kind of hardware you’re dealing with. Go get some emulator source code as well, also to see what you are dealing with.

I’m not trying to rain on your parade, just making sure you know what you’re up to.

Check out the (in progress) [Pandora handheld. It sounds a lot like what you’re thinking of.

If you wanted to duplicate this in home-brew form, You might consider starting with the [BeagleBoard.](http://beagleboard.org/)](http://www.openpandora.org)

There is a way to run SNES roms on a PSP and the Nintendo DS. IMO thats the best option.
