problem with the logomatic card

I bought a Logomatic Version 1.0 three months ago.

I’m now trying to start it with out any success .

I put an SD 16Mb card in my reader and formatted it in Fat 16 (Fatoption in may Windows 2000 computer).

After it I move the card to de Logomatic card.

For a short period of time Stat0 and Stat1 blink very fast and after that they blink at a lower rate (Form me the same in the case of start the card with out the card).

They never stop to blink (I leave the card working for several minutes).

I have tried to pushing the reset and stop button but with out any success.

Could you give me some advice on my problem.

Thanks you in advance.

I am also suffering the same problem, The lights just keep flashing and It never formats the card with the options text file!

Help!

Hmm, I just got a V1.0 Logomatic and am having the same problems. It will not write the LOGCON.txt file at all.

The SD card I have is a used Panasonic 16MB one. Does the Logomatic not like 16MB? I will keep working on this, but does anyone have any tricks to get this very basic operation to work?

Mine is the same.

The Logomatic spec sheet tells me:

Sparkfun:
5 Operation

Before we illustrate general operation, turn on your Logomatic without the SD card in place. You’ll see the staus LED’s blinking rather quickly during the initialisation , then they will go into a slow and steady sort of blinking. Fmiliarise yourself with that particular blinking. It is what the Logomatic will do whenever it is stopped. In this case it’s stopped because it doesn’t see the SD card. It will also do this if the card has been formatted in FAT32 instead of FAT16, or if the stop button has been pushed.

So, this suggests that my card in not formatted in FAT16.

Being a Windows XP user, when I go to format the card in Explorer, the only option I have is FAT. Is this FAT16? If I format in FAT, it still doesn’t work.

Is there another application I can use to format in FAT16? I have tried Partition Magic, but it doesnt even display the card. I have gooooooogled and can’t find anything helpful.

Any new ideas?

Cheers

Bit of an update, I tried a Sandisk SD Ultra II 1.0GB that has been used in a 6 month old Panasonic digital camera. At first it did the same, continuous lower frequency flashing. I pressed the reset button and it stopped! Checking the card, it has some log files and a config file…

So, I guess, either my (initial) 16MB card is not FAT16 formatted or Logomatic doesnt like SD cards so small. As an aside, I also tried the 32MB card out of my Nokia 6230i and that didn’t work either!

I emailed Sparkfun for help, so will update when I know something!

Hey NickP,

I called SparkFun tech support a couple weeks ago and they told me that only card the Logomatic is guaranteed to work with are the 512mb cards they sell on the site. When I keep asking, he said that any 512mb card should work. He said it was because there are slightly different voltage levels used in the different capacities, and the logomatic was especially well suited to the levels of 512 cards.

Based on this I went out and bought the only 512 card I could find at the store, which was a microSD card (with a microSD to full SD adapter). The card works, so I think there might be something to the 512 size.

Dude

Thanks for your response. Was thinking that I was talking to myself!

Done some more digging using [Test Disk and it appears my 16MB card is FAT12!

My 1GB works, and that is indeed FAT16…

So, I think we need a tool to format SD cards to FAT16.

Apparently, Windows formats in FAT12 for devices up to 16 MB, uses FAT16 for devices between 16MB and 2GB, and uses FAT32 for anything bigger than 2GB.

Mike

Thanks for your response.

My logomatic doesn’t work with a 16Mb, it does with a 1Gb, but not with a 2Gb, so I guess it only works with FAT16.

In addition, my Palm E2 works with a 1Gb, but not a 2Gb, perhaps it doesn’t like FAT32…

I had the same problem, and then I tried formatting my SD card using 512 byte blocks using the command at a Win XP command prompt

format X: /FS:FAT /A:512

Worked right away!

Excellent solution… :smiley:

One for my notebook :wink:

My SD card sait it is 2GB, put it onto the Laptop, it got it as 1GB. So, put it in, nothing happened, no blink. After reading this thread I put it into my camera, did low level format, now I have 2GB. And, the LEDs blinked for a while. And, got my files. Nice.

Btw, if I want to do analogue logging, it should be

MODE = 2

ASCII = Y

Baud = 1

Frequency = 1

Trigger Character = $

Text Frame = 100

AD1.3 = Y

AD0.3 = Y

AD0.2 = Y

AD0.1 = Y

AD1.2 = Y

AD0.4 = Y

AD1.7 = Y

AD1.6 = Y

Safety On = Y

or? Do I have to delete lines like Trigger Character = $, its not applicable for ADC anyway?
