Programing Arduino Mini and Pro Mini with FTDI Basic Breako

I have been searching for a solution but cannot find anyone that has posted this question. I recently purchased an Arduino Mini v5, Arduino Pro Mini, and the FTDI Basic Breakout from SparkFun (all 5 volt). I am having trouble programing the boards. I am able to program both boards but the auto reset feature on the newest FTDI breakout from SparkFun does not seem to be working. I have added a six pin header to the FTDI programing pins on the end of the Pro Mini, from reading I believe this should auto reset and there is nothing else I would have to do on the most recent versions of these two boards. Unfortunately the Arduino never resets and therefor never waits for a program to be uploaded.

I would prefer to program both Arduinos from the same way. The Arduino Mini does not have the FTDI breakout and so you have to connect each pin appropriately. I have been able to program both boards this way. The only problem I am having is getting the auto reset to work so I don’t have to push the button every time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your FTDI board needs to have the DTR serial interface pin implemented. And the Arduino you’re using needs to support DTR toggling to reset and go into the bootloader. And your programming software needs to toggle DTR properly.

Most products do all this. Some boards have jumpers to enable this.

Most programming software has DTR toggle as a default option.
