Project : Home Monitoring of Patient

Hi all,

It’s my first time taking up this project and honestly speaking, I do not have a good fundamental background with arduino. Nonetheless, I had made some research on the net and frankly speaking there are lots of arduino products out there and I do not know which of them would fit to the criteria of my project.

I had did a draft on the time frame and planning about this project and the objectives for Phase 1 are listed below:

  • PIR motion sensors to be implemented in the system with wireless transmission of data.

  • Arduino to act as the base station in order to collect the data from the PIR motion sensors.

  • GSM shield integrated onto arduino for alerting the care-givers via instant message.

  • As long motions are detected, system will not alert the care-givers. However, if no motions are detected over a period of

time, arduino will send an alert mesage to the care-givers.

Yup, so these are the plans for the phase 1 of the project. I have plans to integrate vital signs detectors such as heart beat and temperature into this system.

I sincerely appreciate if there is anyone here who could advice me about how am I suppose to start doing so.

Many thanks in advance! smiley

well, the usual warnings about hobby stuff for life and safety!

I’m with Steve on this one. What if something happens and the care giver doesn’t receive a message? What if the patient dies due to not getting that message? Who do you think will be blamed? I highly advise you to leave Arduino and the microcontroller community out of this. Please seek professional help if you want a real alert system.
