Purchase ARM for linux but what: ATMEL, PHILIPS or CIRRUS?

I am new of the forum, but not of the cross-compilation.

I have used for some months with good results the FOXBoard http://www.acmesystems.it/ this is MIPS processor at 100MHz whit 32MB of RAM and 8MB of NOR Flash.

I have successful ported this program:

Lynx web browser, TMSNC a chat msn, and AMULED this is still in test fase, but it works very well.

Now I would like to purchase a board more performing, and I think the OLIMEX board, but I have undecided between this processor:

1)ATMEL

2)CIRRUS

3)PHILIPS

I want purchase a bord whit 64MB of RAM and 200MIPS processor.

The board are:

1)SAM9-L9260 or SAM9-L9261 (but when it will be available?)

2)CS-E9315 (but it is not available yet)

3)LPC-2478STK (but it is not available yet)

I would like a suggestion, does it suit me to wait in June or will there be delays for the availability?

Thanks Luca

The LPC micro does not have an MMU, so it won’t run Linux proper (you can only run uClinux). This means no swap, so you’ll be much more limited in what you can do.

So if you want actual Linux it’s between the Atmel and the Cirrus. I think the Cirrus is a faster chip. Someone correct me if this is wrong

There is already an Olimex board with a CS-E9302. Is that not enough for your application?

Thank you very much for clarification.

The board CS-E9302 have only 32Mbyte of RAM, and I need at least 64MByte, the board that I have is 32MByte and I use swap to remedy. But the continuous swap on hard disk is very slow.

The LPC are excluded if not having the MMU.

There is ATMEL but it has the NAND flash and I read that some problems.

You board which uses? Having problem?

Thanks Luca

hello,

take a look at this board:

certainly is a wonderful board. But how much does it cost?

You have the board? If yes, how are?

Thanks Luca

There is also what appears to be a very nice Freescale based board using the i.MX21 processor. It’s the [i.MX21 COG. It’s fast, and it stacks with other modules. I want to see them come out with this [i.MX31 COG - I’d get in line for one of these. I wonder what the price for a 512 MB RAM/512 MB Flash board would be.

The i.MX21 COG is really beautiful, just that it seems extremely complex compared to the others.

Looking wiki it would seem that a real PC.

I think You should also have a look at http://www.gumstix.com/

It's not a PC. How is it extremely compared to the others? It's certainly smaller than some of the others.

You have the board?

no

Which board you use? List all your experience if possible, discussing the merits and defects.

I have use only FOX Board http://www.acmesystems.it/ this board have:

Core MIPS at 100Mhz

32Mbyte of SDRAM

8Mbyte of NOR-FLASH

2 port USB1.1 and 1 Ethernet 100Mb

The board is very small, support Linux2.6 and have more library and drive cross-compiled, how: webcam, modem, pendrive, hard disk, bluetooth, wifi and more.

On this board there is many work and very beautiful project. I have cross-compiled Amule. Between short time (July/August) will be available a TuxMule a nice gadget for P2P http://www.acmesystems.it/?id=81 or there will be information on my site http://www.lucasproject.it.

Thanks Luca

The little Gumstix boards are excellent, if you want something that comes with Linux and is available now. They are quite inexpensive.
