Qwiic vs OpenScale

Hello,

New to this and need some direction choosing between the Qwiic Scale and the OpenScale systems.

I would like to take a standard load cell from a scale and add to it a bit.

Big picture I am trying to:

  • connect a display

  • input a targeted weight

  • display a go/no go on the display based on the measured weight

I need the scale interface to

  • able to use the tare function

  • keep the scale from turning off log period (8 hrs or so) of times

Do either of the Qwiic or the OpenScale allow for inputs of tare and keeping the scale active?

Hi LikeCharisma,

I think the OpenScale will be a better option here for your project since it will be a more all-in-one solution than the Qwiic Scale and the OpenScale firmware has a TARE function built-in you can use via a serial terminal along with a host of other commands. If you have not already, I would highly recommend reading through the [OpenScale Hookup Guide for a full rundown of the board’s capabilities and how to integrate it. If you want to read up on the Qwiic Scale, here is a link to the [Hookup Guide for that.

The OpenScale can also be reprogrammed like any Arduino so you can customize the firmware on it to output the data to an attached display. I hope this helps you choose the right part for your project.
