Hi folks,
I’m building a rechargeable, battery-powered task light (my first electronics project). Would love help evaluating my approach. Here are the components I’m planning to use:
For the charging station:
— USB-C Wall Adapter - 5.1V, 3A
— USB 2.0 Type-C Cable - 1 Meter
— SparkFun LiPo Charger Plus
For the task light:
— Lithium Ion Battery - 2Ah
— JST Right-Angle Connector - SMD 2-Pin, wired to driver
— FemtoBuck LED Driver
— LED - 3W Aluminum PCB
— Heatsink - 13.20x12.10mm (Copper) backing the LED
— On/off switch of some kind
Let me ask:
— Does this seem like a workable approach?
— Is the 2Ah Lithium Ion battery compatible with the FemtoBuck?
— What would you recommend for an on/off switch?
— Should I wire the switch between the JST connector and the FemtoBuck, or between the FemtoBuck and the LED?
— Do you sell a board or substrate of some kind that I can assemble the various components on?
Thank you so much in advance!
Regards,
Eric
Mostly workable. The femto buck uses 6v-36v as input, you’d need a higher voltage battery like this’n https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11855
Those 3W LEDs can get warm, mount it away from your skin
I’m partial to silly looking switches like https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9276 but we have a few other options too https://www.sparkfun.com/search/results … b=products
Wire it between the JST and femto, or somewhere else in-line with the battery
We have a few things that might help? https://www.sparkfun.com/categories/302
@TS-Russell thanks for these tips–much appreciated.
I see the battery you linked is a dual cell battery pack, and that is a single-cell LiPo charger. I assume this means I’ll need a different charger.
Is <SkyRC IMAX B6 V2 Professional Balance Charger / Discharger> a good candidate? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/16793
Thanks in advance,
Eric
Oh wait, I see that unit is out of stock with no estimated re-stock date. If you’re able to recommend a charger, that would be helpful.
Good catch; yea we’re slim on options right now but you’re looking for any charger that can do “2S Lipo” in its specs
Thank you!! I’ll look around.
