Regulator for SparkFun Pro nRF52840 Mini

Hi!

I hooked up a RFM69HCW to the SparkFun Pro nRF52840 Mini and it kept dropping the Bluetooth connection whenever I transmitted. I reduced the power level and it started work, which leads me to believe that I was drawing too much current through the regulator and it was resetting. I couldn’t find which regulator was used in the schematic, so if you could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks!

Not sure why it’s not stated on the schematic, but the regulator is a AP2112K.

You might find you need a separate 3.3 volt power source for the RFM69 if the one on the board can’t supply enough power for the board plus the RFM69.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure why it wasn’t on the schematic either. Either way, thank you!

I just looked into this a bit more and realizd that the max current for the AP2112K is 600ma, and the max current for the RFM69 is only 130ma. Does that mean the MDBT50Q is drawing close to 500ma, or am I missing something?

It’s possible that it might be using that much or more in small pulses.

I’d try a separate power source for the RFM69 just to see if that helps.

No problem. I order one of those USB meters to see if I can measure what it’s drawing. Trying to dig through the datasheet to figure out what the BLE and processor was drawing wasn’t worth it to me given that slightly reducing the power is fine for my application.

Thanks!
