RF System

I am looking to build a system that contains a wireless transmitter that transmits a unique ID when the circuit is completed.

This is transmitted to a receiver connected to a network.

I’d like to be able to program the receiver to send my website the received ID.

An alert system if you will.

Any thoughts?

Range?

The wireless transmitter(s) would be within 100’ - 150’ of the receiver.

This is transmitted to a receiver connected to a network.

What network?

Our home computer network…

Thus there could be inexpensive transmitters laying around communicating, when tripped to a receiver that can pass the respective transmitters ID via the Internet.

Maybe just an x-bee with an auto transmitter. It just keeps transmitting every once and awhile, and if the x-bee falls into the range of the receiver, the receiver can pass along the ID. The range may be a tad short.

Home computer network…

To use any of the inexpensive transmitters the easiest solution is to have them ‘talk’ to a PC which runs a program to receive the ID code and then pass this onto your ‘home network’.

Xbees could be used this way but they can not directly connect to your ‘home network’.

SparkFun has other transceivers that may connect directly but i don’t have experience them them. The WiFiy is one that should connect into your home network using a WiFi link.
