I am following along with the Getting Started guide for the SEN-18088 but I’ve plugged it into the Windows PC I am using and the device does not configure correctly as either a keyboard (input device) or as a serial port:
Could you provide some ideas to try and help us get the scanner running?
Thanks!
Mine worked fine (windows 11); Have you scanned the barcodes in the guide? https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/2d … -guide/all
Try plugging it into a different usb port, different cable, different PC, etc…any luck?
Yes, I suspected the cable but I’ve tried several and had no luck. I’ve also tried different USB ports, on hubs and directly off the computer. I still need to try on a different computer, don’t have one at hand here yet. All other USB HIDs I have work well on all the same ports I’m trying to test the scanner on. I am starting to wonder if I just happened to get a bad one. For reference, the same cable/port combination works well to connect a Pixel5 to the computer and do development on it.
I did try changing the configuration using the barcodes as listed in the guide, the result of that is shown in the attached images in the original post. I am going to test the onboard RX/TX pins with an arduino, but I really need this scanner to work directly off the computer/USB connection to fulfill the purpose for which it was acquired. I’m happy to try other ideas if you care to share :).
I can confirm that it works on an Ubuntu 20.04 machine using the same cables I have been testing on the Windows machine. So sadly it does seem like an issue with the Windows OS at this point.
