SM-24 Geophone to audio

Hi all,

I’m new to this forum, so I hope I’m at the right place with my question:

Recently I bought a SM-24 Geophone at Sparkfun for a new sound-installation I’m working on. I already figured out how to use it as a trigger for prerecorded samples with Raspberry Pi, but now I’m wondering if I could use directly as a microphone to record subsonic audio and re-pitch it to audible levels. Would something like that be possible, and if so, how?

All the best!

I don’t think that particular model will work well, as it has fairly bad linearity around 20 Hz http://cdn.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Sens … ochure.pdf, which is the ‘normal’ low threshold for hearing

If you found one that works well from like single-digit Hz - 40Hz it would be a lot better suited. Then you’d record the signals, and post-process them to increase the frequency to an audible range and or adjust pitch&volume
