Processor Board: SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus C

Arduino IDE: Version 1.8.x

Presently the Arduino IDE Board: “SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus C” has an additional configuration line compared to the “Sparkfun esp32-thing-plus-usb-c-hookup-guide software-overview” Arduino IDE Board: “SparkFun ESP32 Thing Plus C” configuration:

Erase flash memory Disabled

My question is should "Erase flash memory be “Enabled” prior to uploading a new program or left “Disabled” assuming that flash memory is erased automatically when a new program is uploaded?
