Starter ARM Dev Board?

OK, I have been a PIC guy for years and I want to make the jump into the world of ARMs and I think the best way is to get a dev board. But which way should I go? I have only really looked at the LPC2138. I am really confused on which ARM is the way to go. So far, I have seen that there are several ARM variants, made by several companies. It looks like the Phillips LPC series has a pretty good following.

Any suggestions? I am try to stay with a $100 or less dev board, but I could go a little higher is the extra cash is really worth it.

What suggested toolchains should I look at? Is there any kind of C development studios available, like MPLAB?

Thanks!

Hello,

The Olimex LPC-P2148 is a good board to start, I had no trouble with this one.

About the toolchain, you may try YAGARTO or WinARM, both are free and work well.

Is this the right one?

I will check out WinARM.

Thanks!

The Embedded Artists boards are very good. They sell a proto board that takes a range of modules with different LPC21xx chips.

Yes, it is the right one.

About the toolchains, YAGARTO is more up to date currently (GCC 4.2.2 vs GCC 4.1.1).

IAR’s excellent toolset is available for non-commercial use in a 32KB max code size limited version. Easier than struggling with WinARM and its clones, IME (in my experience).

Can be used with Olimex or other LPC2103/2106 boards.

HP 20b calculator? http://hpwiki.fatcity.com/doku.php?id=2 … ng_project

They’ve run the JTAG port out to pads, but haven’t populated it. Schematics are available. They’re about $40. And, of course, they have a keyboard and display.

Anyone know how to get these HP20 in the UK ? So far it looks like a US only distribution…
