Stepper Motor Stops at 1A for 1 Second Using L6482 Driver

Microcontroller: STM32
Driver: STMicroelectronics L6482
I am running my stepper motor in constant current mode using the L6482 driver. Everything works fine until the current reaches 1A, at which point the motor stops for 1 second before resuming. This happens repeatedly during continuous operation.

  • Has anyone experienced similar behavior with the L6482?
  • What should I check next to prevent the 1-second stop at 1A?

If you have a scope with peak-hold you might test and see how many amps are drawn @ max

That driver has both overcurrent and thermal protection shutdown/stall modes; Iā€™d maybe take a look at those registers and/or increase their values and see if any change happens

Is the driver board getting hot physically? What voltage are you running at? Motor?

Sounds like you might need a bigger power supply?
