What capacitors ,resistors etc… would i need to stock to learn?
i have a pack of resistors and some NPN and PNP transistors, is there anything else i might need?
i do not have a good stock of capacitors and was wonder how many and
of what values i should stock.
electrolytic and regular capacitors.
Plenty of 100 nF monolithic ceramic capacitors, and a few 10 uF and 47 uF electrolytics (10V) should get you started.

Yeah, SFE’s selection of regular through hole prototyping parts isn’t great. We figure most people can get simple components locally rather than through a internet order. Here are some parts close to what Leon suggested:
