Yeah, I’m sure you can make some serious art on the boards, but it seems awfully silly to me that cadsoft would display a font that can never leave the program…
Well, if you had the vector font box checked, yes, it’s going to look the same when you export. If you didn’t have it checked, it uses a nice clean font and then changes it to that ugly vector one when you export gerbers.
The ‘Always Vector Font’ thing has always struck me as a major quirk with Eagle. One would think that if, in the end, the font is always vectored, the ‘Always Vector Font’ option would be on by default (or wouldn’t be an option at all).
Eagle supports nice fonts, the CAM processor doesn’t. It’s actually sort of a good thing, as it would produce a pretty large Gerber file otherwise. Assuming you had some kind of PCB fab arrangement where you could provide a BMP or Postscript image for the silkscreen instead of a Gerber file, then you’d be able to use the nice fonts. At least Eagle offers that possibility instead of locking it out.
