Tiny AVR Programmer PGM-11801 Shorted?

Hi all,

When I plugged in a Tiny AVR Programmer into a free USB in my computer, the amber LED turned on but I got an error saying that there wasn’t enough power and then there was difficulty recognizing the device. Looks like the programmer is busted, but is there a way to avoid this for next time?

Thanks!

Hello!

If there were a short, you shouldn’t get any LED at all. Do you have anything plugged into the programmer when this is happening? If you do, when you unplug external devices (and your ATtiny) from the programmer, does the issue go away?

If you can provide a photo of the top and bottom of the programmer, that would be helpful in identifying the issue.

I did have the ATtiny85 inserted into the programmer at the time. When I take it out and plug the programmer into the USB, there’s no response (No LED). Likewise with the ATtiny85 inserted now. I’ve attached some pictures below.

Thank you for the pictures, those help us a lot!

There could be something wrong with the ATtiny85 you have. Have you tried another?

Have you tried actually programming the ATtiny yet? If you’re using Windows, have you installed the driver for the programmer? If you switch to a different USB port are you getting the same results?

Just trying to figure out if your ATtiny is causing this or if it’s the programmer. Let me know what happens. Also, if you can provide your invoice/order number, that will help too.

My order number is #5629181

And you’re right! I tried another ATtiny85 today in a different USB and I was able to upload the Blink sketch successfully.

Thank you!
