Hello guys, I know I am an absolute noobie, but I have just spent a couple of weeks trying to get a couple of ESP32-WROOM-D32 boards to talk to my Windows PC. I tried everything to get the board to talk to my PC. I even installed all kinds of esoteric tools to enable it, but eventually I came to the distinct reality, that my problems lay with driver for the CH340 Chip on my two boards. I tried literally everything. I Googled, and even bored Chat GPT to death with my frustration. In the end, with a slight ringing in my ear about being careful to check for faulty or power only USB cables, I found myself trying another USB to C cable that I had found laying around. Guess what? It made a hell of difference. I had been installing, and reinstalling the CH340 drivers, but although it kept reporting that it had been installed, it never showed up in the device manager. Eventually, I got the driver to install by adopting a slightly different tactic. I went into device manager, clicked on Ports, then on Actions (top Menu) and selected Install Drivers, then I went looking for the newly download drivers folder on my hard disk. To my amazement and of course delight, the drivers finally installed, Device Manager refreshed and who la, there was my nice, freshly created USB-SERIAL CH340(COM3). If this helps anybody to avoid the sheer mind bending frustration of not being able to do a simple thing like get a dammed ESP32 to run, then I will be very happy. Don’t forget, check those cables. Even if you think you are sure!
