I am planning a high-altitude balloon venture and need some advice and input on radio communication with the payload. My idea is to avoid dealing with HAM licenses and expensive 900 Mhz radios by sending data over a Midland 36-mile two way radio, via headset/mic input to avoid modifying the radio itself. I would station one on the ground and one in the payload, sending data like GPS coordinates, altitude, and battery level to the chase car. I posted a topic in the “projects and product questions” section and realized it should have been over here.
Any comments? The discussion is titled “High Altitude Balloon Communication” if you would like to comment on the original thread. (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=26245)
Also, I would like to keep the total radio cost below or around $100, if possible.
Thanks in advance!
