Can six 1.2v AA batteries in series be used to safely power a Duemilanove at 7.2v? The batteries I have on hand are 2650mAh 1.2v Duracell rechargeables.
I don’t see why not…it would be kind of bulky though. You would however get a pretty good amount of mAh from it (they would last a while). Pretty much any supply voltage above 7 volts would work, as long as there’s the 5v regulator on it. I’d look at the regulator’s datasheet first, though, to see the absolute minimum Vin for it to regulate to 5v (I’m pretty sure it’s about 7v)
Yep you could, but a more efficient way would be to bypass the voltage regulator and run it striaght from four batteries. You’d need to bypass the regulator by not using the barrel plug, but instead using the +5V and GND pins. I’d suspect you’d get the same runtime out of this configuration as the 6 batteries through the regulator way, for a weight/cost saving of two batteries
If you could use another two batteries, and have two parallel banks of four, you’d come close to doubling your run time
