Video with GPS and 3 axis accelerometer

Ok I am new to this but really would like to tackle this one. I would like to make a helmet camera that has GPS integrated and possible 3 axis accelerometer. To create track maps as well as show speed and braking.

I have found the Board Cameras and the GPS and 3 axis all here, but I am lacking the knowledge on what I need to put these all together and have it stored to a SD card.

Can someone help a lost wanna be techy out?

Thanks

Doug

Are you trying to create a HUD (heads up display)? Or just record the GPS and accelerometer data and overlay it onto video for playback at a later time?

Record video with GPS/Accel overlay for later playback. But was hoping to do it all onto one SD card.

Like this camera here www.smartycam.com but to SD card

Is there any way to add a CMOS Camera module to a Kinetamap?

The kinetamap was made to be very “flexible and hackable” so i image you could connect a break out board to it very easily. The only setback I see is the LPC2148 doesn’t have too many ports left open. I count about nine ports open now. Not sure of your soldering skills. The LPC is a fine pitch IC so it might be difficult to solder your connections to the board but certainly not impossible. Adding the accelerometer and gps data to the recorded image might have to be done in software though.

An easier solution might be to make the cmos camera you use a stand alone device. You could have the kinetamap and cmos camera transmit independently of each other but send each signal to your pc over a bluetooth connection and then overlay the data there.

Hope that is helpful advice. Good luck.

I’m working on something similar. For data capture you could base your project on the Package Tracker or Logomatic.

I’m researching higher quality cams at the moment. Most of the bullet type cams are 640x480. I haven’t seen any reasonably priced HD bullet cams. With the availability of small form factor HD cams on the market there must be a way…

You may want to have a look at Dashware from chasecam.com for doing the video overlay. I think very highly of the software and have had excellent response from them from any questions I’ve asked.
