WAV Trigger Making Screeches and Plays No Audio

I just got a WAV Trigger in the mail today, and started using it. I created some audio files that were formatted properly and uploaded them to the SD card. I tested everything out with a 6V barrel jack power adapter, and all of the audio files played fine through the headphones. So, I altered the ini file with the WAV Trigger Init File Maker so I could test an external speaker, and everything worked fine, and played sounds great.

I’m going to be using this WAV Trigger with an Arduino through the FTDI port, so I went ahead and installed a solder jumper to SJ2, and tried powering the board through the FTDI port with 5V and this loud screeching started coming from the speaker when the board was powered on. The LED on the WAV Trigger flashes three times and the board seems to be booted, but it only emits this constant screeching. I tested pushing the button to test a sound, but it just makes the screeching momentarily louder.

I removed the solder jumper at SJ2 to try powering the board the way I had previously, but I’m still getting the screeching noise and there is no audio playing anymore. Not sure what’s going on here. This was a new board, and it seemed to work before I made the SJ2 jumper. Now nothing is working.

Thanks for the help /s

Hi Blue, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, we’ve been slammed here.

I’m not sure what causes the issue you’re seeing but there is a warning in the [users guide to not power power the WAV Trigger from both power sources at the same time. If I had to guess, that might have caused one of the voltage regulators to fail and once that happens it’s very likely that some of the IC’s on the board were damaged.

If you purchased the board directly off our website, just [fill in the form on this page with your order number and the URL to this forum post and I’ll see what we can can do for you.](Return Policy - SparkFun Electronics)](http://robertsonics.com/wav-trigger-online-user-guide/#chapter1)
