Wearable GPS module

Hello,

Does Sparkfun have any wearable GPS module that can be sewn like the Arduino Lilypad?

Not exactly, and the modules need a clear view of the sky to operate (some use on-chip antennae, some use external ones)…are you wanting to put it on top of a hat or something per chance?

I was thinking about sewing a GPS module to the chest pocket of a shirt.

With the GPS unit sewed to a shirt pocket, signal strength will be low, reception will be erratic and positional accuracy will be degraded.

The antenna should be pointing up, with a clear view of the sky. GPS satellite signals are very weak.

You can use one of their small GPS breakouts with a LilyPad or similar wearable controller, but it would need to be mounted and wired rather than stitched directly.

Do you have any chance to produce a lilypad compatible GPS module in the near future?

I don’t believe so :-/

Indeed, not facing in the right direction, and significantly attenuated and detuned by the human body.

Head or shoulder mounting would be better, but the detuning is a significant problem. You’d do well to consult with specialists like Taoglas, or look at how other existing solutions have approached this.

Or perhaps receivers permitting two antenna to allow diversity in placement and reception.
