Weird TLP/RLP 434A wiring issue

So I just got my TLP/RLP pair, and figured I’d give it a quick and dirty shot.

So I wired up a pic to use the uart at 4800bps (been using it at 9600bps with the serlcd so I knew it was working), and set it to continously send a single character.

I then just plugged my Tek scope into the digital out on the receiver and…nothing.

tried 1200bps…nothing. I hooked the scope up to the transmitter data pin, and there’s the signal., nice and clean…hmm…

double checked all the wiring…everything is fine.

Tried all sorts of different antennas on the driver and receiver and…nothing (note the transmitter and receiver are all of 5" apart, so I didn’t figure I should need any antenna at all).

I then noticed that on the reciever, pin 6 is marked as E/D, but in the datasheet it was marked as ‘Vss’ So i thought ‘what the heck’ and I disconnected pin 6 from ground. And there’s the signal, clear as day on the receiver.

So what is pin6? Should it be tied to Vss? Vdd? left floating (as it is now)?

Edit: I just realized E/D is possibly ‘Enable/Disable’. Perhaps they’ve changed the pinout slightly in subsequent revisions?

I bought the same thing for a component in my senior project. I couldnt get it to work for anything, showed it to my professor and he gave up too. He told me to exclude the wireless part from the project. I had pin 6 tied to ground too (like in the datasheet), but my board has nothing printed on it, no E/D that I can see.
