Wibree chips?

I heard something a couple of days ago about Wibree technology, effectively an upgrade above Bluetooth. I know it would be perfect for a project of mine. But, I can’t seem to find any chips for it. I know it is a new technology, but there has to be SOMETHING out for it by now, right? Does anyone know of any Wibree chips available? Thank you!

Would WiBree be based on a IEEE or ISO standard?

Wikipedia says WiBree is proprietary and may have an implementation late last year. Also says the RF output is -6dBm which is barely an RF wisper.

Sounds like a poor choice.

But, all I want is extremely short range (2ft tops). I read that same Wikipedia article, it actually makes a lot of sense to me for my project. I don’t know what standard it is though.

a pair of Xbee modules at < $20 ea. being plug-and-play, no more coding, is attractive. But even the low power XBee modules have much more than 2 ft. range, unless you configure them for lower TX power. They are IEEE 802.15.4 and thus have MAC addresses for routing.

I dunno, I’m looking for something at a different frequency than 802.15.4. I work in a wireless networks lab where about half of the high-power equipment in there operates in the 2.4G band. I was strongly recommended to pick a different frequency to avoid interference - this is a project that takes real-time samples at 1kHz for an unknown, possibly long, period of time, and it needs to be extremely accurate - it can’t handle much loss or interference. If you think Wibree isn’t such a great idea, do you have any other ideas that may help?

Really, this is my senior project so I can graduate. My adviser/teacher, who has expensive experience in several areas of wireless transmission, is very strongly recommending me to choose something other than ZigBee, and I haven’t seen much else in 15.4.
