You can use the “internal” antenna which is chip based, or you can add an additional antenna (can only use one at a time) on the provided connector.
Range is difficult to estimate, I use it indoors through 2-3 walls without problem.
Radio frequency is standard 2.4 ghz band.
Depends on the shield 
If you shield 2.4 ghz it’s not going to work
