Wireless communication with external antenna?

As I look at the available processor boards, it appears that none have a connector for an external antenna for any sort of wireless communication. Is that true? I’m looking to set up a weather station with the weather carrier board, but I know from previous experience with similar hardware that an omni antenna won’t reach our house from the location I want to install this. Any options other than using the I/O headers on the carrier board to communicate with something else that can send the data over a directional antenna?

Thanks for reaching out to us on this.

Depending on your use-case, I think you might be looking for one of these 2 options:

SparkFun Photon RedBoard https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13321 - this has a u.FL connector and built-in wifi

SparkFun Photon Weather Shield https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13674 to add-in wifi only (if that’s a viable option) if the directional antennae you’re looking to use is wifi-capable

Or a 3rd option is to use the headers directly.

Hope this helps, and happy sparking!
