Wireless for appliance control

I would like to modify some lights/outlets around my house to be able to shut them off from a single display panel near my front door. Can anyone suggest some options for wireless receivers/transmitters. Obviously there will need to be several nodes in the wireless network to be able to handle all of the devices, and the transmitters will need to be powerful enough to reach distances of about 70-80 ft. through walls. I’ve looked at several things, but I’m a little over my head with options.

This is one of the things the ZigBee Protocol is intended for. The easiest to use and off the shelf RF modules are the XBees from Digi Int.

ZigBee got 3 years behind a proprietary but popular protocol owned by ZenSys, called Z-Wave.

See the products and hundreds of chats about it in several places on homeseer.com’s forum

It replaces the el-cheapo X10 wireless, which itself might do just fine.

I will explore these options.

Thanks for your help.
