Xbee Pro 50mw - Default configuration, transmission delays

Ok these Radios seem to be awesome from what ive read. I took the plung to order 3 units, they are the 50 mw 2.4ghz pro Xbee units.

Out the box, I used the spark fun explorer board for my micro, and I orderd a different usb explorer board (microcontrollershop.com)

Anywho, with the default configuration, It seems the end point radio will delay its transmission randomly.

To break down my setup, I have my PC connected to both units (coordinator and end point) there hooked up to a usb serial adapter. I loaded up two X-CTU programs side by side to configure the units. I can get them talking between each other perfectly fine (using the X-CTU terminal App).

My problem is, the Xbee unit that is pluged into the spark fun explorer board, will randomly delay some of the bytes I try sending to the coordinator. It seems the speed at which I type the bytes in has no effect sometimes I can send 50 characters , sometimes only 5, then all sudden it stops responding, and on the other terminal app, I have no problem sending bytes to the end point. Moments later I will see the delayed bytes appear all sudden.

I also notice there are few LED’s on these dev boards, The USB-Xbee board Im using has a led labeld “Associate” which seems to always be blinking, I notice the RSSI leds between each explorer board will come on and go randomly.

download, read, understand the Digi OEM manual for these XBees. It is lengthy and very complete. There are differences in the Series 1 and Series 2 modules.
