Hi all, I need to divide a 12m-long, 4m-wide walking corridor into 12 zones. Sensors can only be mounted along one of the 12m side walls, and only at a height of 20cm from the floor.
I’m looking for a way to detect presence in each zone without overlapping — in other words, I need to make sure that each sensor only detects motion within its specific zone and not in adjacent ones. Multiple people may be present in different zones at the same time. I don’t need to count them — I just need to know which specific zones are occupied.
What would be the best type of sensor and the best approach to achieve accurate, zone-specific presence detection under these constraints?
Could zone 3 be activated without zone 2 or 4 being activated first? Are the zone sensors networked to a larger controller? Can they vote? How bad are the (virtually inevitable) false reads going to be? Are the ambient conditions controlled, is it indoors? Is the corridor regularly cleared/zeroed?
More details will lead to higher quality brainstorming.
What you gave us: Walking corridor.
