12V Vacuum Pump Power supply

Hi,

Using the 12V vacuum pump for my thesis project. Was doing a test this to get a gauge on the flow rate of the pump however around 500ml in it started sparking and shaking. I had it connected to this battery

Which last time I checked it with a multimeter read around 12.5V. Was just wondering if someone could point out the mistake I have made?

Where were the sparks coming from? Is it possible your wires touched the motors metal frame? Can you send a photo showing your connections to the motor?
